The new job…
It’s going to be a busy two weeks ahead. June 11th will be my last day at Platinum Broadcasting. June 12th we’ll move as much as we can to the new place and June 13th is the Wedding Rehersal and then the big day! THEN start the new job on the following Monday!
Which is….Afternoon DJ for Star 107.9 in Great Bend, KS. I’m pretty happy about it honestly. I wasn’t so sure I even wanted to stay in radio for several reasons, but mostly the sour taste in my mouth from my current company. I applied for some computer related positions but only had one real opportunity, and that seems to have dried up. But all in all, I still enjoy radio. It’s a fun job that not a lot of people can say they’ve done, and while the pay isn’t spectacular, pay isn’t everything.
We’re looking for a place in Great Bend now and Andrea’s looking for a job down there. Still a lot of uncertianty, but it feels like a weight has been lifted! I just kept praying to God, asking him to open the door he wanted me to walk through, and this feels right. Now I just hope he remembers to find me a place to live!
Yay, Me!
This has been an extremely interesting day! About three months ago I applied for a job over at the Ford County Sheriff’s office in the records office. I went through the interview process and then never heard anything for a long time, so figured that was a bust.
Well, a few weeks ago they called me and asked if I was still interested in the job. SURE! Then began a background search. That thing was DETAILED! They had found where I’d gone to court when I was maybe 15 yrs old. (That was a long, long, long, long time ago!)
After passing this background test I had to go in (today) and take a lie detector test. This is so cool! I admit, it doesn’t take a whole lot to entertain me. It wasn’t near as detailed as it looks on all those crime/drama shows, but still it was a kick.
Starting next week I’ll have a new job. Well, I’m keeping a few days of the waitressing gig cuz it’s hard to give up cash in my pocket when I leave there at night. But the new job pays nice, has paid vacation, paid insurance, retirement… it’s like I’ve growed up and became an adult! Ok, you all know me too well. That’ll never happen. ha ha
Going to be doing some re-organizing.
Well the blog has changed a lot in the 3 years since I started it. I’ve switched from blogger to WordPress. And new features have been added. Originally the tags were used to indicate who posted what, but now the author is listed with all the posts. So those tags are a bit redundant. When posting, feel free to choose the appropriate category.
I’m going to go through and re-tag stuff as I have time. But there’s over 600 posts so it will be a while. After everthing is retagged, I’ll remove the author categories like “Genius of Matt”.
When I imported from Blogger to WordPress long ago, it made me the author of all the posts that were ever posted on the old site. So I’m going to try to make sure the appropriate author gets labeled. If you’re ever looking through the archives and see something you didn’t write with your name on it. Let me know and who you think DID write it so I can change it.
Now that there’s a little bit of history and information built up here, I want to try to organize it a little better so it’s easier to search through.
New toy
Well it’s been a while since I posted. Been busy with remotes and Grandma in the hospital and all. I’m feeling pretty drained.
So maybe it was just feeling like I need to reward myself or something, I dunno. But at some point we’re all allowed to make ridiculous purchases right?
So we bought a 47 inch LCD HDTV.
The picture doesn’t really do justice to how ridiculiously big this TV is in such a small room. Ha ha. But I figure my next place is hopefully a little bigger, and I plan on this TV lasting a while. I payed a little bit extra to make sure it was full HD 1080p. So it shouldn’t be obsolete in the immediate future. We had to get HDMI cables for our cable box and the DVD player that Andrea picked up today to get the digital picture. And we had to get the HD package from the cable company. But it looks great if you ask me.
On the other hand, regular TV looks kinda gross now. You ever take a small picture and stretch it out on your computer screen? Know how it gets all blurry? Yeah. Even PS2 games look pretty antiquated when blown up this big. We debated getting a PS3 or Xbox 360, but I think we’re going to hold off on those for a while.
So I have two 27″ TV’s laying around now. haha. One Stooks gave me a while back and if he has a use for it, he can sure have it back whenever. If not I have two TVs that I’m willing to GIVE away. You…someone you know…want a TV? Come get it or catch me on a trip close to you, and its yours.
I’m pretty excited though. I’ve had a nice sound system for a while now, and always said I just don’t have the TV to go with it. Now I do. I see no need to buy a movie ticket ever again.
01.17.08Settled on the El Camino.
The insurance adjuster got back with me today, sooner than I thought. The damage did total the car, as expected. We’re going to meet next week and exchange the title and they’re going to cut me a check for $850. I’m pretty satisfied. I’d have a pretty hard time selling the car for that much, even without the roof damage. I had the option to keep the car and get about $300 less, but I’d still be stuck getting the roof fixed which would be costly to get done right. Best to cut my losses and move on to the next project, I think.
01.10.08A couple last pictures.
Well the insurance adjuster is supposed to be intouch with me here in the next day or so. So I figured I’d get the El Camino washed off and looking as good as it CAN look. At least I can say I got some use out of it. Hauled a several loads of limbs out of the place and had fun driving it to work a couple days.
Never did get much work done on it since I started painting the Toronado shortly after I got this. Just got the new bumper put on, trim rings on the wheels and a couple odds and ends. Never did get around to getting the real tail lights working though. But sure seems like she came a long way since I got her:
I’ll probably save a lot of parts incase I get another El Camino of the same body style, or just sell a bunch of parts. Who knows. Either way I think I got my money’s worth out of it, and I can say I owned an El Camino!
12.24.07Am I allowed to put this on a resume?
Well, I piddle around in photoshop from time to time. Mostly just cropping things, or changing the color of of my car. Ha ha. Recently though the Oldsmobile website I visit was looking to come up with a sticker that members could slap on their car and show their allegiance to the forum. I figured what the hell and came up with a little something.
Everybody voted, and whadda ya know, my design won!
Not only that, the owner of the site asked me to try to turn it into a banner ad they could run to promote sponsorship on the site. Check it out, though you might have to refresh a couple times before it pops up in rotation.
I don’t get any money off the deal, which I never expected to anyway. I’m just goofing around and happy to lend some nerd help. Since there’s a lot of people who know a lot more about cars than me on there, I suppose this is the best way I can be useful on an automotive forum! Ha ha. Just kinda cool to see something I did have a widespread impact. People from the San Fransisco, North Carolina, and in between will be sticking these on their cars. Just kinda cool.
12.3.07Like another hole in my head….
There is an addition to the household. Duane decided we need a kitten. Don’t get me wrong, it’s cute and all that kitten stuff… but I swear, it’s like a dog! It wants me to constantly pet it, hold it. And meow!? I wanted to call it Sassy cuz this cat NEVER shuts up. Duane named it Tiger, it’s his cat. Well, it’s his cat the one day a week he is home!!!!!!
What is amazing is that I really didn’t want another cat. I tried to talk him out of it. But it is a cute little fart, and you’ll see when you come out here, you can’t help but like it. It’s quite the little snuggle bug. Hey! I just realized…I just might have a cat that will be social with people!
11.30.07Thanks for my best day ever!
No…best day ever (so far).
48 views! Ha ha. (It doesn’t take much) Not bad for a dumb little blog. Thanks for clicking repeatedly. The stat boost gives me more E-PEEN! (If you don’t know don’t ask.)
Oh and I have to thank all the Stuart Smalley hunters out there. I don’t have any CLIPS, or VIDEOS, but you sure are helping out my traffic making sure. Keywords FTW!
Let’s start a pool.
Well there hasn’t been too much posting lately. Partly because of how busy I’ve been trying to get the car going again, and all the traveling. (I’m going to Sabetha tomorrow too!) But mostly I think I’m being too picky in the relevancy of what I post. I was looking back through the archives and there’s a lot of posts that are just quick little thoughts, or small little moments of the day, that are just a joy to go back and read. It brings back the memory of something that would have been otherwise forgotten.
So starting today I’m going to post AT LEAST ONCE A DAY, no matter how insignificant. I already know its not going to last. Haha. I have a resurgence of posting for a few days, then it always falls off. So I’m going say 17 days of posting without missing one (including today). That’s at least a post a day until December 9th. I can do it!
It should make it more encouraging to visit the site, but more than anything a couple years from now I can look back at the posts and say, “OH yeah! I forgot about that.” Ha ha!
