My new toy

I finally got my laptop. Actually, they call it a netbook. They’re not made to do stuff that involves a lot of memory or graphics, just the normal checking your emails and stuff like that. Unless you want to try to get it to do all of that stuff.

It went down in price, so I broke down and bought it. Heck, when you’ve been watching something for a month and notice that the price dropped $100, you’re gonna get it right? Here’s a few pics of it.

Isnt she purrrdy!

Isn't she purrrdy!

Now, this pic might show the beauty of it, but not exactly the size.

And this isnt a mini bottle!

And this isn't a mini bottle!

Yup, she’s only got a 10″ screen. Not too bad, I actually really like it. I just mostly wanted it to be able to sit in the living room, watch tv and chat/surf at the same time.

Time capsule

For those that follow my Twitter, you heard that I bought a “new in the box” N64 controller off of eBay last week.  When it comes to eBay, I’m always skeptical by default.  But at the price of $27 I figured it was worth a shot.  I only have two good working controllers for my N64, and even if this was isn’t BRAND new, I’ll just be happy if it has a nice tight analog stick.  So after work today there’s a package waiting for me.  I tear it open ready for some disappointment.

So far so good.

So far so good.

The box wasn’t in pristine shape, but I’m not too worried about that.  I used to save all my boxes for all that stuff but eventually I decided to throw them away.  The controller looks good so far, but someone could have easily repackaged a used controller in a box.  But the nice crisp warranty card is a good sign that this might actually be the real deal.

Im calling it new. Or at least good as new!

I'm calling it new. Or at least good as new!

After removing the plastic and a thorough inspection, I don’t see any signs of this old thing ever being used.  There’s no real proof that it isn’t used, but as far as I’m concerned it’s better than 95% of the controllers that are still out there.  I tested it out and it works perfectly.  And now much to Andrea’s chagrin, I repackaged it in the box and it’s sitting next to my computer.  To stay “new” as long as possible.  Ha ha!

Ooooh yeah!

Just ordered up these bad boys.  Andrea and her family all pitched in and got me a hefty Sears gift card for Christmas…  I had my eye on an air compressor but I couldn’t get anyone at the store to help me at the time.  Now it’s not on sale any more.  It’s only a matter of time though.  In the meantime, I ordered a cordless drill, circular saw, and light from their website.  Awesome deal on it too.  $95 shipped for everything.  Can’t hardly beat that!  Now I can BUILD STUFF!  Ha ha.

Still have $100 left on my card, so if it won’t pay for a new air compressor by itself, it will sure take a nice chunk out of one.  Just have to wait for another good sale now!

Halloween

It’s that time of year again! I love being able to carve pumpkins, but I haven’t done it in years. Now, it’s time to break that streak!

I know that the quality is crappy, but we left our camera in my sister’s car. So, we had to bank on the video camera’s abilities to take pictures.

I also made a video so you can see the effects of the candle light here.

Cheap gas?

I got up and headed to work this morning and my low gas light was FLASHING at me. It’d been dinging for a couple days, but since I only have a couple miles to drive to work, I wasn’t too concerned about it. But I figured since it’d gone the extra step to get my attention, I’d go ahead and fill up.

I’ll admit I was almost giddy when I saw the sign reading $3.15 for regular gasoline! I haven’t seen it that low for a long time! Still kinda sad that I’m getting excited about gas being over $3.00. I still think it’ll get down into the lower $2.00 range, though it might be a couple years from now. People say I’m crazy for thinking that. But I bet back in the 80’s people never thought that gas would be less than $1.00 again, but I sure remember it being 73 cents back in 1997.

Sad thing is, when I was filliing up this moring, the pump had a $50 limit on it, so I still couldn’t quite get a full tank. Hopefully gas keeps going down and it’ll have worked out!

SNL Tina Fey as Gov. Sarah Palin

She had left the SNL scene, but HAD to come back to do these parodies of the Govenor of Alaska and VP running mate of Senator McCain. I wonder if she’ll come back to do some more after Palin does some more interviews…. We’ll just have to wait and watch SNL every Saturday night!

NBC has removed these videos from Youtube, so I couldn’t embed them into the post. They are linked to the NBC site, so if there are commercials before the video, I’m sorry.

What can I say?

B-E-A-UTIFUL!

B-E-A-UTIFUL!

I was just in awe when I saw the pictures of the Dodge Viper ACR. Not only does the speedometer read to 220 MPH!! But it’s got a massive 8.4L V10 in it. I could definitely scoot around in that!

Just check out the pics here.

You’ll see what I’m talkin about!

Our Home. I wish!

Here’s the place we stayed in Hawaii.  So nice I felt out of place!

More of the pics.

You may have perused the gallery already, but for those who haven’t and those who wondered what they were looking at…here’s a few more with commentary.

Opaekaa Falls

Opaeka'a Falls - The house at the top of the falls is actually for sale. $4.25 Million and it's YOURS!

Wailua Falls - You might recognize it as the waterfall from Fantasy Island.

Wailua Falls - You might recognize it as the waterfall from "Fantasy Island".

Of all the waterfalls on the island, the ones below were my favorite.  These falls are about 3 miles from Hanalei, where the picture was taken.  If you look at the full size picture in the gallery, you’ll see a few baby waterfalls to each side of the big one in the middle.  The top of this mountain gets over 400 inches of rain a year, it’s one of the wettest spots on earth.

We made it back!

I must say, if you ever get the chance to go to Kauai…GO!  Andrea and I both had a fantastic time.  We were there for eight days and seven nights and at the end of it we STILL weren’t ready to leave.  It’s amazing how beautiful it was everywhere you looked.

The island was bigger than I thought it would be.  Only one hiway went around the island, except for about 10 miles.  So if you want to get from the north side to the west side, it’s about a 2 hour drive clear around the island to get there.  The island is only about 35 miles wide, but we managed to rack up almost 800 miles on our rental Jeep.

Here’s a few highlights.  Check out all the pictures in my Picasa Gallery.

Here we are just getting off the plane waiting for our bags. We were enamored right from the start as we walked through the airport, and everything is open to the outside air. There were some fences and gates to keep people from bypassing security areas and the like, but no matter where you are, you’re breathing fresh ocean breeze!

From there we hopped on a shuttle to the car rental place.  Which was hidden away in a little industrial area.  We’d never have found it ourselves.  From there, Andrea’s dream came true when they handed us the keys to our Jeep for the week.  She’s now for sure she wants one of her own!

Andrea in heaven.

Then we headed up the coast for a beautiful drive to Princeville on the North Shore.  We took lots of videos, but it’ll take some time to get ’em uploaded so look for that post later.  As a wedding gift, Andrea’s Dad let us use his timeshare.  It was a real classy place.  I was quickly feeling out of place!

We got all checked in.  Took a moment to take everything in, and then hopped in the suits and headed for the beach!  But more on that later.  It’s 2 AM (only 9 PM Hawaii time!) right now and should get to bed.  Jet lag sucks!

To be continued…
