Yee haw…Friday.

Welp.  Tomorrow’s Friday.  It’s been a pretty good week and that makes tomorrow even better.  I know it’s going to fly by too.  I’m sorta filling in for two people tomorrow.  Our traffic person, and the PD.  So I’ll be plenty busy.  Not much time for Smokey Dan to be buggin’ me!

I look forward to Fridays.  I dress a little more formal for this job, which isn’t all bad.  But I look forward to Fridays getting to wear my T-shirt and hat again.  And it’s good knowing I have a nice full weekend coming up to get some stuff done!

I’m still on the lookout for a darn ladder.  I went and priced the cheapest extension ladders I could find.  $100!  Sheesh!  That’s a lot of money for something I’m going to hardly ever use.  I guess maybe I’ll use it again for Christmas lights?  Who knows.  I haven’t decided if I want to spring for one yet.  Where the heck can you buy used ladders!?

But for now, it’s off to relesh te rest of my evening with my wife, a cold Miller High Life and some Guild Wars.  Life doesn’t get much better than this!

I can haz interwebs!

I knew I couldn’t trust the cable company.  They said they had to send somebody by.  I don’t think anybody came by.  The feable piece of wire that held the cable box shut was still very much like I last left it.  I came home from work and Andrea was on the phone with Cox customer support.  She chats with him for what seems like forever, unplugs the modem.  Plugs it in, does a bunch of stuff, blah blah blah.  Keeps saying our account isn’t “Authorized”.  So he tells her they’ll send a guy out.  Friday at the earliest.  WTF.

So we trouble shoot some stuff on our end.  Make sure all the connections are good.  And finally I went as far as to hook the cable modem straight up to the cable that’s coming off the pole outside.  Still no change.  So the problem was DEFINITELY on there end.  I’m convinced that there’s just a problem with our account and that they don’t have the right modem MAC address on there.  So I convince Andrea to give ’em a call back, and she asks them to double check the modem on the account.  Sure enough, it hasn’t been transferred yet.  So after about 15 minutes of her sitting on hold, they FINALLY get it all straightened out and we have the internet again.

Seriously though.  Why can’t people just get things straight?  We’ve had issues setting up every single utility at this place so far.  All of it just because people can’t seem to figure out how to transfer information from one address to another.  Don’t even get me started on our water bill.  Let’s just say there was one night last week we could only flush the toilet once.  All because somebody can’t get numbers straight.

Anyway.  It’s nice to have internet again.  My computer isn’t anything great, but it’s sure a lot better than the ones we have at work!  So much smoother and faster.  And the chair here is more comfortable to boot!

‘Bout time for a time change!

Well, I dunno if we’re on standard or daylight savings time now, but whatever it is, it should stay this way.  I know that the days get shorter in the winter and everything.  But everytime there’s the time change in the fall, EVERYBODY talks about how much it blows that it gets dark so much earlier.  And then come spring, everyone (including myself) sings praises of the return of the longer afternoons.

So if everybody hates the fall time change, but loves the spring time change?  Why the hell change it at all?  Nobody needs light in the morning, because nobody does anything they actually WANT to do in the morning anyway.  You get up, you dread work, you work, then you savor the sweet salvation that is the evening.  THAT’S where I want my sunshine.  Who cares if the sun doesn’t come up until 10:00am in the winter time?  It’s cold, we’d rather be sleeping anyway.

Oh, sweet tasty milk!

I’ve always drank a lot of milk.  I love milk.  But I can’t drink that stuff Andrea drinks.  Fat free skim.  BLECH!  So we each have separate jugs of milk in the fridge all the time.  Andrea brings a fresh jug home for me the other day, and I notice that it’s a different brand than usual.  No biggie I think to myself.  Milk is milk.  I take a swig and DAMN THAT’S GOOD!

“That new brand of milk you got is GREAT!” I tell her.  (Seriously it was damn tasty.) “We should get that brand from now on!”

“Well it’s whole milk,” she says.   “They were out of 2%.”   OOOOHHH.  That makes a whole lot of sense.  (Man, there’s no such thing as a good pun, is there?)

So now I’m torn.  I had been drinking 2% for so long that I had forgotten the full flavored goodness of whole milk.  Do I go back to the relative healthiness of  2%?  Or indulge myself in all of Vitamin D’s glory and to hell with the consequences?  The eternal struggle of Good vs. Good For You continues on.

Lovin’ the Blackjack.

Andrea’s mom is in town this weekend, so we’ve all been hanging out having a good time.  She wanted to go up to the casino while she was here so we all loaded up and headed to the Sac n Fox north of Topeka.  I didn’t have a whole lot of extra cash, and probably shouldn’t have been gambling in the first place.  But we had a good time.  I spotted Andrea $40 and I ended up winning $40.  Then she was able to pay me back plus an extra $160! (She kept the $160) Not a bad night if I do say so myself.  That makes about three trips in a row that I’ve come out of there positive…looks like I’m due to lose next time.

Hot damn! Err…cold damn!

I finally decided to get off my duff and mess with my AC in the car again.  Since it was oh, 102 today.  I had previously thought that the refrigerant was leaking out as fast as I could put it in, but a while ago my compressor would engage and disengage on, off, on, off, when the AC or the defrost was on.  So that lead me to believe that the system was actually holding some of the charge I’d put in it quite a while ago.

On my AC system there is a pressure switch that won’t let the compressor come on if the pressure gets too low.  If you run the compressor without enough oil and pressure it’ll over heat an seize up.  A problem I was running into when I was trying to charge the system last time is the compressor wouldn’t run.  It would overcharge the low side, the compressor would kick in and equalize the system, then the pressure would drop, and the compressor would go off.  So it was on, off, on, off, a very slow process and it didn’t seem to be helping any.  After reading around on oldspower.com I found out I can just jump the pressure switch (so it thinks the pressure is good) and the compressor will run continuously.  This way I can keep charging and steadily bring the pressure up.

About 1 1/2 of these cans later and the compressor would run even with the switch hooked up.  I hop in the car and lo and behold there’s cool air coming out of those vents!  YEEE HAW!  It’s not freezing cold.  But it was cold enough to make it comfortable in my car for my test drive when it was 97 outside.  That’s good enough for me!  Hopefully it holds the charge.  Since it lost the original charge there’s obviously a leak somewhere.  But it seems to have held what I put in there from last year, and even if I have to charge it once a year, I’m okay with that!

Turns Out Simpsons Are Better Than Harry Potter

It looks like The Simpsons Movie did a hell of a lot better than the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie. Go Homer! Woo-hoo!

The Simpsons movie pushed Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix all the way to 3rd place with this past weekend’s profits.

$70 million in it’s opening weekend. Which makes it the 3rd largest debut for an animated film.

$17 million in this past weekend.

This just goes to show that Harry Potter isn’t as popular as everyone thinks. There are more people out there that love Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. Oh, can’t forget Santa’s Little Helper! 😛
