Let’s pitch this tent!
We’re wanting to do some camping this summer and we needed a new tent since last year ours finally was getting some pretty decent holes in it. I wanted to do a little research before I just went out and bought a random tent. Come to find out a lot of the Wal-Mart tents SEVERAL people had complained about poles breaking. Since no one else sold tents here in Great Bend I was forced to order online.

I ordered this tent Tuesday with two-day shipping and it finally showed up yesterday (Monday). We didn’t get to camp this weekend and I called Sears and told them that I wouldn’t have paid extra for two day shipping if I knew that they were going to wait two days to ship it anyway. To my suprise, their customer service rep not only spoke english and understood my problem, but also went above and beyond and refunded my entire shipping cost! I don’t mind when people or companies make mistakes, as long as they make an effort to correct it, and I was very satisfied with how they handled it!
Our last tent was a good tent. It was small, but it was super easy to set up, and real sturdy in the wind. So with this one I wanted something that wasn’t complicated to set up, but wouldn’t mind something bigger. Turns out we found a great deal on the Coleman 10×12. Just two poles and a rainfly and you’re done. One person can probably easily set it up in 10 minutes. Should serve us pretty well.
Our little yellow tent had a good run.
Now we just have to find a free weekend to hit up the lake!
Express Checkout!

This is too cool! Grandma Dee sent this to me today and I just had to share it. It’s a 13 ft. tall shopping cart with a souped up Chevy engine. This is something I would have LOVED to take to Prom in High School or something, haha. Plus I could fit a lot of frozen pizza in there.

01.17.10Pleasant Weekend
Well it’s been a real nice weekend. Or at least my recollection of it is nice. Started out late Friday when we headed over to Charlie’s Place for some beverages with several former Rocking M folks. Had some good times laughing over the old stories. The occasion was the departure of Matt, the last person that was left in programming at the old station I worked at across town. They’re down to the front desk gal, and a couple sales people. No regrets about the tough decision I made last year, sentiments that were echoed around the table.
After a late night we were able to sleep in. Saturday and watch the Saints thwomp the Cardinals. Which will make NEXT Sunday interesting as now the Vikings put on a real impressive show today. I’m excited and nervous. I’ve never rooted for a team that had a CHANCE at a champ-a-ma-thingy.
Went to the store over the weekend too. You ever have little annoyances that just bug you to no end, but they just seem like they aren’t a big enough deal to worry about? Well we were at the store and I decided I was going to go ahead and nip two things that had bugged me for a long time. Got new drip pans for the stove, and a new el cheapo coffee maker.
Black rather than chrome after the last experience...
$14.00. No timers. Just old schooly on/off switch.
I subscribe to Mom’s school of thought when it comes to coffee makers. It really does no good to drop a bunch of cash on a coffee maker when the tap water is so hard that it eventually ends up getting ruined anyway, no matter how much you try to clean it. The last coffee maker we had was real nice, but even with regular cleaning, it still only lasted a little over two years. So until I end up with a water softener (unlikely) I’ll stick with the bottom shelf Mr. Coffee maker.
In contrast, I skimped on the last set of trim rings I bought for the stove. And it didn’t take but a week for the fake chrome the flake off the chinesium surface. After a few heat cycles and a couple passes with comet just trying to keep the stove clean, they looked like a beer can that had been sitting in a campfire overnight. Decent drip pans are freakin’ expensive though. But tired of looking at the old ones; I dropped the cash for new ones which hopefully last until we move out of this place!
Helped Andrea wash and wax the car, played some of the New Super Mario Bros. Wii that we recently picked up. And just had an all around great weekend. Here’s hoping a week full of sports board-op-ing is at least tolerable!
12.31.09Only one word to describe the following…AWESOME!
11.29.09
Sometimes it’s just good to relax.
Seems like it’s been one extreme or the other lately. Thanksgiving was real laid back and a nice break from the routine. Only to turn around on Friday and work 5:30 AM to 7 PM. Yesterday was busy cleaning house and then off to work, coming home cleaning some more and then playing a few hours of Blackjack with Biebs and Andrea’s family.
But today has been nothing but lazy. I haven’t even had to put on a pair of shoes. Hehe. Played some Guild Wars and spent most of the day watching football and just relaxin. My Vikes s pare still rolling and I really have to take back all the bad stuff I ever said about Farve.
No real point to today’s post. Just need to keep the streak going and since I didn’t do anything today, there’s not much to talk about! I need to set some new short term goals I think.
10.8.09I got new specs, too!
New Specs
I want to go back to rims, but thought I should gradually make my way back into them. So, I got ones with just the rim on the top of the lenses. Not too bad. Matt and my co-workers like them, and that’s more important than me liking them since they see them more! I just look through them.
It’s been a while since I’ve gone into the eye doctor’s, so I’m glad that I got upgraded! The doc says that my eyes are actually getting better. That’s a good thing I guess, since usually they gradually get worse as you get older. I must just be getting younger! Yay me!
10.1.09New specs
Finally got my new glasses today. Went with something kinda geeky. Drives Andrea crazy but she’ll get used to ’em. I like them. And most of all, I like that I can see without a big blurry cloud over my right eye!
I got some daily use contacts too incase I’m ever doing something that would be nice to be able to ditch to glasses. I just remember how frustrating it was snorkeling at Hawaii and wishing I could see the stuff we’re looking at, but having to wear goggles meant no glasses. I don’t think I’ll be snorkeling again any time soon, but should a situation present itself, I’ll be prepared!
Chopped
Welp, I cut my hair off. Err… Andrea did. It was getting shaggy, and I was tired of messing with it all the time. And not to mention it was friggin hot. I dunno how you girls do it with all the hair all over the place come summer time. Too hot, I’d be sweatin’ up a storm!
Sorry I haven’t been blogging in a while. It seems like it’s been busy, but I really can’t think of what’s been going on. I promise to do better in the days to come.
Recently we went out to the Barton County Fair since we had some free tickets to go see the Big Red One Rock Band from Ft. Riley. They were a pretty good group. They had a horns section and everything and sounded real good. We took some time to walk around and check out the exhibits. I couldn’t help but think how the fair probably hasn’t changed a whole lot in the last, what, 80 years? All the kids were showing off their calves they’d been tending, and no shortage of rabbits, chickens, goats and the like. It was just kinda nice to see that there’s still old standards around in a time where it seems like technology is invading everything.
Yesterday, Andrea, my friend Kenny, his girlfriend, and myself all went to a little restaurant just south of Timken, KS along the highway. It wasn’t anything spectacular. But the portions were HUGE! Andrea ordered “Loaded French Fries” for an appitizer and they brough out a full size dinner plate HEAPING with home cut fries and covered in cheese, ranch and bacon. I had the chicken fried steak, and that thing was almost an inch thick and buried in more fries! They don’t screw around. The food was good, everything was hot, but nothing was just packed with flavor. Still worth the drive from Great Bend once in a while. And it’s the only place on earth that I know of that you can get Keystone Light ON TAP! Weird.
The Finished Product…
Need I say more? Just check out the pictures!

Yay, us!

Good Stuff from the garden!
All the hard work is going to pay off. The garden is starting to take shape. Our tomato plants are perking up (one even has blooms already), one jalapeno plant survived and the corn is up and doing well. I’m not too sure what I’m going to do with the turnips Duane planted, but they are thriving Seriously, what are turnips good for?
Gardening is good for the soul, also good for reminding me of muscles I haven’t used for a while!
