Oh what a night!
Saturday was the Platinum Broadcasting Christmas party. It’s usually a good time and this year was no exception. Basically the company reserves half of Kite’s, a bar in Aggieville, and have them cook up some food and give us an open bar from 6-10pm. You can see where this is going…
Andrea had to work until 7:00, so I just kinda chilled an hung out with Stooks and Jeri Anne, our new part timer while most people were showing up. The food was being served right about the time Andrea got there, and without hesitation we ordered another round of drinks. After about two amaretto sours, Andrea started to complain that the drinks were weak (a sure sign that the drinks aren’t weak, she’s just starting to get a bit sauced, hehe). So after a few doubles Andrea starts wandering around and ends up talking to a bunch of people, including trying to convince Stooks to ask out Jeri Anne, and to Rodney about me for 45 minutes.
By this time the open bar is closed, and I hadn’t been able to find a waitress for the last hour or hour and a half. My buzz pretty much wore off so I was ready to go. But before we leave, Erin buys everyone a round of Jagerbombs (as pictured above). I thank her and we head to the next bar which is just packed. I’m really ready to go home now because I haven’t been drinking and am really not much for big crowds, but Andrea’s having fun so we hang out a bit longer then head home. I don’t know what it was, but I was fine the whole way driving home, but sometime after I climbed the stairs to the apartment that jagerbomb hit me hard! Ha ha.
It was a fun night for everybody, and I don’t think anyone threw up on the floor of Kite’s this year! I hear the bar tab was $1,100 though. Of course they should have known to give a bunch of radio guys free reign on a bar like that.
And I thought my car had a lot of miles…
Peter Gilbert was a salesman. He needed a reliable vehicle to drive all over Wisconsin. In 1989 he bought this Saab 900 SPG. 17 years later, he’s racked up 1,000,000 miles. Yes that’s right over a million miles. I don’t know if that’s a world record, but it’s still impressive.
Apperantly the only work he had done outside routine maintanance was a transmission rebuild at 200,000 miles and body work after eight deer collisions (Not eight deer at once). Let’s be honest though, 8 deer in 1,000,000 miles sounds about right. He changed the oil religiously every 3000 miles and did all the recommended maintance one would do. Maybe there is something to keeping your car well maintained!
He donated the car to a museum after Saab verified the milage was genuine. And why wouldn’t they? It’s great publicity for Saab. But I got to wondering what this car would be worth in the ol’ Kelly Blue Book. Appearantly KBB refuses to accept the possibility of any car making it to the one million mile mark. After all, that’s all the way to the moon and back…twice!
My car currently has a little over 204,000 miles. But I have no intention of challenging this guy’s personal best. I just put 75,000 mile tires on it not long ago, and I fully expect to wear them out. The car runs strong and soldiers on. But when you have a car with a lot of miles like this, you can’t help but wonder how far it will go (knock on wood).
My second death threat.
It’s from the same guy though, so maybe it doesn’t count. I’m starting to think that this guy is the only avid listener of the show, ha ha.
Every time I put him on the air (a grand total of two times) I get people calling and saying what a douchebag he is and if I’m scared of him etc. If he weren’t threatening me with six sided dice (a.k.a. normal dice?) then maybe I’d be scared. For now I just call him, “My smallest fan.”
My first death threat.
I think I handled it well.
Check out the seldomly updated show page for the call.
Bowl Game Time!
Did I read it right? K-State is headed to the Texas Bowl? From what I read it sounds like more than a few Wildcat fans are heading down there.
How are teams selected for bowl games? Do they rely on W-L standings at all? Rutgers is 10-2, while KSU is 7-5. That seems to be a big difference…
They don’t make ’em like they used to.
Yep, another wallpaper. Hope this doesn’t turn into the Wallpaper blog again like it did a while back. Hehe. I put together a little homage to Oldsmobile’s history. Lots of Cutlasses and only one Toronado! Click the picture for the hi-res version.

I made it back from SWK and brought an early Christmas present with me. “It’s-a me! Mario!” Mom got me this sweet neon-ish sign. I decided to hang it in the living room with all my games and such.

Stupid O’Reillys fools.
Well I’m getting ready to head out for Thanksgiving in the Toronado, and it’s been a hair over 3,000 miles since my last oil change. So I figure best change it before I put another 700 miles on. I go in and pick up some vacuum line to fix the cruse control so it works all the time, not just when it wants to. I forgot the filter number so they looked that up for me. I got a high milage filter for cars with over 75,000 miles. I think my car qualifies. 😉 I grab some STP oil treatment and 4 quarts of oil.
The guy asks me if that’s it, and I tell him to ring me up. He rings it up and asks if I have another quart of oil at home or something. I tell him no, that my car only takes 4 quarts. Heck I thought it was weird at first too. But one guy behind the counter gives me a funny look like I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about, and the guy ringing me up says, “Well let’s look it up.” So he looks it up, and he says, “Oh. 3.8 quarts plus filter volume.” a.k.a. 4 QUARTS! I may not be able to overhaul an engine, but I at least know how much friggin oil my car needs.
By the way, oil isn’t that cheap at O’Reillys. Unless you want to mess with their mail in rebate. No thanks, it’s not worth 10 minutes of work and 2 months of waiting to get my $4.00 back. I’ll just get it at Wal-Mart next time.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s the auto parts store, Best Buy, or just about anywhere. Why is it a guy can’t just walk into a store, buy what he wants to buy and get out without being treated like an idiot that doesn’t know what the hell they’re doing. I want four quarts of oil. Maybe I just want to slather it all over myself and go sliding naked across a basketball court. Just give me four quarts!!!
I haven’t forgotten.

I haven’t been posting lately. But as the picture above shows, I haven’t been just ignoring the blog. I haven’t even had time to play any games for the past week! So you KNOW I’ve been busy. I’ve just had a lot going on.
I went up to Sabetha to see all the grandparents with some time off I had the end of last week. Grandpa Wayne doesn’t seem to be getting any better. He’s lost most of the strength in his legs and has trouble getting out of chairs and has been using a walker to get around. Grandma called today and said they ran some tests and that he needs to stop taking chemo immediately. So say a prayer that he can start feeling better one way or another.
Between then and now it seems like I’ve just been busy doing odds and ends stuff. Fixing little things on my car, and doing stuff around the house I’ve been putting off. I’ve been strangely motivated lately and just haven’t been on the computer much longer than to check e-mail, and haven’t played any games or watched TV or anything.
I did get a chance to see the new Bond movie. It’s what a lot of people said it would be, more like the early Bond films. There’s really no gadgets, although there is plenty of high tech stuff. It’s all just a lot more believable. It’s certianly a different Bond film, and I think a nice change of pace for the series, and great timing to introduce the new actor. Check it out if you have the time, and the $8.50 to buy a movie ticket. =P
Coming up I’ll be heading to SWK for the Thanksgiving weekend. I’ll be eating a total of 4 Thanksgiving dinners this week, so I’m hoping to not pack on more than 10 pounds. Wish me luck!

Can you spell victory? I can!!! On Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 7pm on ABC, the Kansas State Wildcats were scheduled to take on the #4 Texas Longhorns. Everybody was a little weary about the Wildcats winning with how they’ve been playing up until this game. But everybody’s minds were about to change.
Opening drive, Texas gets the ball and scores. Also, their all-star quarterback is hurt and won’t return the rest of the game.
Kansas State returns the kickoff. Josh Freeman steps onto the field and leads the Cats to their first drive score. Tied 7-7.
2nd Quarter: Cats couldn’t get it going again and had a punt blocked for a Texas touchdown. Texas 14, Kansas State 7.
But they then bounced back and Josh Freeman hooked up with James Johnson for a touchdown. Tied 14-14.
The Cats held Texas to no score then Yamon Figurs returned a punt for 52 yards. Then Leon Patton runs for a touchdown. Cats up 21-14 at the half.
Then third quarter comes. It didn’t start off too good for the Cats, but then the heat got turned on.
Texas blocked another punt and their running back ran it in for a touchdown. Tied yet again 21-21.
Then the Cats come back but don’t get anything started. Yet.
Texas retrieves the punt, but then on the fourth play, the running back fumbles and the Cats recover.
Then came the two trick plays in a row for the touchdown. Jordy Nelson throwing to Rashaad Norwood, then Leon Patton throwing to Cedric Wilson for the Wildcat touchdown. Cats are up 28-21.
Then Texas fumbles again and the Cats recover. Josh Freeman hooks up with Yamon Figurs again for a touchdown. Cats up 35-21.
Texas gets their punt blocked, and Josh Freeman runs it in for a touchdown. Cats up 42-21. Can you believe it??
Texas would come back and score some. Cats up 42-35.
Then Jeff Snodgrass kicks a field goal to bring the Cats up 45-35. Enough lead to win the game, we thought.
Then Texas comes back and scores a quick touchdown. Cats up 45-42.
Texas tries an onside kick, which only goes 5 yards and Jordy Nelson recovers for the Cats.
First down Cats with 44 seconds left on the clock. Cats Win! Cats Win!
Then everybody rushes onto the field as shown in the picture above. If you would like a bigger picture, click here.
