Now that I got it, what do I use it for?

You know, I can vaguely remember thinking several times that I needed a printer hooked up to this computer. But, for the life of me I can’t remember what I wanted to print. Now I have one hooked up and can’t think of anything I need printed out!

The printer you picked up in nice. I tested it out on photo printing and it works great. I couldn’t for the life of me think of anything to use the regular printer for so I could test it out and see if it worked after I hooked it up to the computer. It works on it’s own, as a photo printer and a scanner/copier, but wanted to make sure the usb cable I got was right. I finally just went into the word processor program and wrote “Test” a few times to see if it’d print. It did. I can remember going onto the ign site and printing out game walkthroughs. Maybe I should try something like that.

Oh well, it works. I’m sure it’ll come back to me what all I needed this for. I’d just hate to think I have an expensive photo printer! (If that’s all I ever use it for!) Remember the dvd burn drive I SWORE I’d never need? I’m sure this is going to be the same and I will wonder how I lived without it in a month or so!

The internet returns!

I have the internet back…and I’m swimming in it!

Lazy Sundays are the best!

I’ve gotten absolutely nothing (constructive) done today. Isn’t that the best kind of day? It almost feels like I am playing hookie!

A couple of weeks ago I finally managed to get spiralfrog all set up and I’ve been downloading songs. On dial up it takes a while, but I’ve got nothing but time today!

The day only gets better….NFL! Hey, maybe the Chiefs will actually win! Ok, so chances are it won’t be the PERFECT day. The next best thing to watching them win, is watching them lose. Ha Ha

Internet is on the fritz.

They must be doing “upgrades” somewhere in the neighborhood because every morning my internet practically doesn’t work.  It’ll be up for 30 seconds real slow, then down for 5 or 10 minutes.  REALLY annoying since I’m such an internet junkie.

It seems to work fine by the time I get home from work, but I hope it doesn’t get any worse.  We ditched our cable a while back to save some extra scratch, and if the internet is down, there’s not much to do.  I have taken Final Fantasy XII back up in the mornings and am enjoying it even more than the first time I started it.  So it’s not all bad.  Just if you’re paying for something to work you expect it to work, ya know!

I crave internet!!!!

Oh, man. Too tempting.

Well I found a deal at Buy.com for a 30GB Zune media player (kinda like an iPod) for $89 with free shipping. I’m so tempted to buy it, but I don’t need to be spending the money! Especially with all the money I’m giong to be spending on gas in the next couple months! Plus I need to redo the rear breaks and shocks on my car sometime, and save for wedding stuffs. But if I find $100 laying on the ground, I’m nabbin’ that thing up!

LOL quad core.

For the person who you ask, “Why?” And they say “Why not?”

It’s pretty amazing what they’re doing with processors these days.  I got my first “real” processor my AMD 3200+ back when they finally came down to around $100.  Andrea has that same processor in her computer today and it’s still plenty quick, and can be had for less than $50 at Newegg.com.  And all of a sudden these quad core processors can be had for a mere $280.  At first that sounds like a chunk of change, but considering the power these things pack for less than $300 you have power on you deskop that was unheard of less than two years ago.

Even so is it still worth it?  As the prices of these top of the line processors come down, it only drives down dual core prices, and makes single core technology (which to be honest is still more than adequate) even cheaper.  It’s been said there’s never a good time to build a PC, because there’s always something a little better just a couple months away.  But if you ask me right now is  GREAT time to build a computer.  Smokin’ fast machines are actually attainable, and almost as fast ones are definetly affordable for the average joe.

Pretty impressive considering not that long ago we were saying “WOW, I wish I could afford one of those” to 400Mhz.

Free music without all the jail time.

Kudos to the record companies (well one at least) for finally acknowledging the non-traditional means of generating revenue that the internet can provide. The website spiralfrog.com recently launched which allows users (folks just like you and me) to download as many songs as they want, listen to them however many times they want, absolutely free of charge. Instead of the music label getting it’s cash from you, they instead get a cut of Spiral Frog’s advertising revenue.

It’s not a perfect scenario though. Universal is the only record company to jump on board so far, but they are the largest label in the world, and have several great artists like Maroon 5, and Bon Jovi amongst others. Also every Spiral Frog file will be laden with restrictive DRM which restricts how you can use your music. You aren’t allowed to burn their songs to CD , they only work on some portable MP3 player and they don’t work with the iPod/Phone/Tunes/Shoes. Basically they want to ensure that you’re only getting the songs from spiralfrog.com. Which considering they’re giving you the music for free is fair enough.

Testing out Picasa

And so far it’s not working like I’d like. =P

EDIT: Looks like WordPress doesn’t allow flash. I gotta get around to hosting this thing on my own server sometime. =P Yay another piece of my paycheck gone every month!

Anywho, if you’re wondering what Picasa is, it’s basically Google Photos. You can upload pictures and make online photo albums that you can share or keep private or whatever. You can post slideshows and stuff too, but that’s the part WordPress’ hosting won’t allow.

Here’s my gallery for an example: http://picasaweb.google.com/kartmaster

I’ve been with out internet for almost 12 hours now and i guess it wasn’t what i thought at first. i thought they had shut me off, but come to find out mom and dad were having the exact problems i was. the problem is we cant authenticate with the PPPoE server. therefore rendering our connection useless. then at 8:17am the morning mom let me know that both ingalls and cimarron are both without internet service

EDIT: internet services have been restored. so ftp/web servers should be back online

plus I’m still having troubles with my website. Thanks to my awesome host over at www.hostrocket.com they were able to back everything up I’ve come to the conclusion it’s a wordpress plugin that causing the problem. i thought i had had it fixed once, but yesterday i went to login again and another error so I’m going to have to go through ton of code to fix this problem so biebsworld may be crippled for awhile

It might be about time to switch to Opera.

Thanks to a friggin Firefox exploit I got a virus last night. Not sure how I got it. I was only browsing my regular sites, but I guess you never know. I know that it’s Firefox’s fault because that’s the classification that the virus scan called it.

It said it couldn’t quarantine it or delete it, but it “moved” it. Oh thanks! Just move that virus around on my hard drive. So hopefully it’s moved far enough away that it doesn’t cause a problem. But according to www.secunia.com Firefox has the largest number of known security exploits next to Internet Explorer.

Exploits:
Firefox — 43
Safari — 6
Opera — 6

I love Firefox and everything, but it’s starting to fall victim to the same thing that plauges Internet Explorer. Mainstream use. It doesn’t matter how secure you claim something is. If there’s a large enough group of people using it, idiots are going to spend time trying to figure out how to exploit it. So I think it’s Opera time. Until that catches on then I guess I’ll have to go to something else.
