XM and Sirius soon to be one.
This has been on the rumor mill for quite some time. But it’s finally been approved. Sirius will be buying XM. There’s actually talk that subscribers could be paying less than they are now. Supposedly the programming is going to be offered in “tiers”. Music – Sports – Talk – Comedy, etc. You pay for the content you want. We’ll see what happens.
Look for me on CNN!
I’m doing the New Years broadcast for the radio station tonight in Aggieville. It’s gonna be a cold mo-fo. Lots of people. Lots of confetti. If you see me I’ll be a little blip on the screen to the right of the main stage, shivering my ass off!
Hope everybody has a fun New Years Eve! Don’t get too crazy!
12.4.07Miis!
Out station is (supposedly) giving away a Nintendo Wii this Friday. I say supposedly because until today they said they weren’t sure if they were going to be able to get one in time. But I’ll believe it when I see it. Our backup plan is apparently to write “You won a Wii…as soon as a store gets one…someday.” on a paper napkin and hand it to the winnner.
ANYWHO we were doing some promoting on the website so I made Miis for all the DJs at miicreator.com!

It’s a great time waster. I’m not sure who to make next!
11.29.07For all you people who wish you won radio contests…
Consider this. We just finished up our Extreme Makeover contest. If you’ve ever seen the show, Ty Pennington busts in on somebody’s place, takes over there house and remodels it. Kinda like a Pimp My Ride for homes. Well we just kinda steal the name and use it instead of calling the contest “A bunch of crap you don’t really need.” We delivered today “Almost $7,000 worth of stuff.” Which was actually around $6,250 worth of stuff, so we really should have said “Almost almost $7,000 worth of stuff.”
And that’s all it is, is stuff. No real rhyme or reason to the collection of items. We gave a surround sound system but no TV or no couch. Not one, but TWO dining room tables! (For BOTH your dining rooms!) And antique wood framed mirror. A closet organizer, and supposedly $800 in bed and bath accessories. Which should take up more than two bags if you ask me. Check out one of these dining room tables, yeah…where you gonna put that in your house?
Point is, even though it sounds good on the air, don’t be too heartbroke if you don’t win some of that stuff. There’s a young couple in a small house in Manhattan that isn’t going to be able to use their living room until they have a garage sale or an auction, or rent a storage unit. When $6,000 cash would have fit in their back pocket and they could have gotten something they actually wanted.
11.23.07No matter what I feel bad.
I won’t lie. One of my biggest weaknesses is organizing my time. I’ve tried carrying a planner, I’ve tried digital calendars. But when it comes down to it, there’s only so much time in a day/week/etc. Its only a matter of time before my forgetfulness coupled with my underlying urge to try to make people happy gets me in trouble.
I had been on vacation for a while right? And in between cussing sessions with my car, Grandma Pat calls and asks if I can come up for Thanksgiving. I explain to her that Andrea and I already planned on being in SWK for the holiday, and that I have to work Friday, but that I could probably make it up for the weekend after (i.e. tomorrow). Well sometime late Tuesday I check my e-mail and there’s a little reminder in there that I have a remote Saturday (tomorrow) from 1-4. DAMN!
So dreading it, I call up Grandma and Grandpa to tell them I’m not going to be able to make it Saturday and will try to get up there Sunday, but that I probably won’t make it in time to see Uncle David. So they put David on the phone who always gives me jabs about keeping in touch with people as it is ha ha. But he’s pretty understanding. So I wrap up the call feeling bad, but relieved that the tension is over and once again there is certainty in my future. However unpleasant it may be.
Not to long thereafter, Jenn, our night DJ comes in to work, and I was telling her about the whole fiasco (popular term these days) and she offers to do the remote for me! What a nice girl! She’s always going out of her way to be helpful and its nice to work with somebody who will actually do a favor for you from time to time. I asked if she would still let me have the money though, and she said no. Bitch.
In the end the the best possible outcome came through. Well I’m going to have a slightly smaller paycheck, but other than a bit of guilt for for weaseling out of a responsibility I agreed to weeks in advance, I’m relieved. Oh. And I still have turkey to eat. All is right with the world.
07.24.07And back to afternoons.
Well my stint on the Morning Show comes to an end on Monday. I was offered the position in addition to being music director for both our FM radio stations, but I didn’t feel that the salary they offered was compensation enough for the responsibility they were asking me to take on. So I decided that even though the job would look good on a resume, I wasn’t willing to let them take advantage of me. I still would have been making less then other DJs here at the station, but I would have been the busiest, most visible personality. Besides I’ve got the experience of the Morning Show now, and can throw it on a resume if I want to, and have already done music for both stations in the past.
Kinda of a shame though. I had a good time with the show and we got quite a bit of good feedback on the show. And no one called and said we suck (that I know of). So for now it’s back to the 2p-6p afternoon shift that I was doing before. I didn’t mind it before, so I don’t mind it now.
Yeah. You’re jealous.

06.29.07Morning Show Again
I figured when I did the morning show a while back it was a trial to see whether or not I completely sucked at it. I guess I didn’t COMPLETELY suck!
Today was Stook’s last day as Program Director and Morning Show Host. Our new P.D. that they hired should be here sometime Monday. But I’m going to be doing the morning show on an ‘interim’ basis until at least the 15th of July. Then the new P.D. decides where we’re all best suited. So who knows what’ll happen. I could be permanent morning show host. Or I could be looking for a new job! =P Just gotta wait and see what this guy wants to do.
So for the next few weeks at least I’ll be getting up at 4 a.m. and getting home around 2:00 p.m. That gives me plenty of daylight hours to work on the El Camino!
Wish me luck!
New Morning Show Host
Well for a couple days anyway. I’ll be hosting the morning show on 97.5 while our current host is out of town. I’m a little apprehensive about it but not too bad. If I prep out enough material I know I’ll do fine. But I’m worried I might get sucked into it permanetly.
The same guy that does mornings is also the Program Director, and he’s also quitting at the end of June. This opens up both positions. I don’t think I’d mind filling in a couple days on the show, but I don’t really see myself as a morning show kinda person. Or just a…morning…person period. It’d be a big adjustment. A lot more work, and probably not much more money. It’s just part of radio that I’ve never really had the desire to do. I am however hopeful for the Program Director position. That would also be more work but quite a bit more money.
So who knows I might end up doing both….or neither. It’s all up in the air. Not to mention the lady was supposed to let me know today or tomorrow if we got that house and she hasn’t called any of my references yet. So that’s not looking too great. There’s just so much going on right now that my nerves are just kinda fried. I’m trying not to worry about too much, or let too much bother me and just let God handle it. But it’s tough when there’s this much uncertainty. But I suppose that’s why they call it faith.
Oh, THERE’S my blog!
Alright. It’s been a long time since my last blog. Sorry about that. Everything’s just kinda seemed ho hum the past couple weeks. Not sure what the deal is. Maybe it’s the weather. It’s been so wet and dreary lately. I’ve been wanting to get my oil changed for a week now but the ground has been so wet and it’s been raining pretty much every day. I don’t want to get more messy than I already do when I change my oil. =P
So I’m getting back into the site here, I promise. Though if you’re familiar with any of my websites in the past, I always seem to go on hiatus at some point. So we should all be so glad that it only lasted two weeks! Funny thing is there isn’t much to blog about since my last entry. I beat all the missions in Guild Wars: Prophecies. And I’ve now racked up over 500 hours on that game. Though I must admit that probably half that time is AFK (away from keyboard) time. EVEN STILL, that certainly solidifies my nerdiness, and lack of better things to do for that matter. But hey, at least there’s no sort of monthly fee to play the game like there are most games of that type. It’s fun to get on and just piddle around for a while and get off, or get on and spend a couple hours on a mission.
As for now. I’d best get back to work and get the weekend ready to roll. I have a remote tomorrow, but it’s over by noon. Then I have no idea what I’ll be doing. Andrea’s sister is coming into town tonight, so who knows where I’ll be dragged this weekend! Pray for me!
