The box is always more fun than the toy…

A 20 Minute Project

This is gonna be fun!

I’ve had these cards from Club Nintendo for a while. I wanted to display them in some way but they really would look best with frames. Frames are so expensive though… except at the Dollar Tree! $1 per frame. Much better than the $3 or $4 I was finding elsewhere. Thanks to my officemate Kate for revealing to me this awesome deal!

And I’ve got a helper! These cards show every portable game system Nintendo has released to date. And with the recent announcement of the 3DS XL, these cards are already out of date. Haha.

I think it looks good. I’m debating putting them on the wall behind Andrea, or setting them up in the soon to be “studio” room. I’m afraid the glass in the frames will create some reflection problems, but never will know until I try.
Meanwhile, Luke was having some mischevous fun of his own.

Just What I Needed

Yesterday was the first time in a while I didn’t leave the house. Well I didn’t leave the driveway at least. No work, no travel. Just some honest to goodness free time.
First I slept in. I highly recommend it if you ever get to try it, but like anything else, you don’t want to get used to it. So I rolled out of bed at 8:15am and started up some coffee, and went out to the garden and pulled up a nice batch of potatoes and a fresh yellow onion. We didn’t have much for breakfast, but I fried those up and Andrea made some muffins and it was a pretty alright breakfast! Just needed some bacon and eggs to be perfect!

Afterwards I went back outside and aired up the pool for Luke and I to play in. It was a hot day, but didn’t feel too bad once you hopped in. Luke did pretty good, but the water was a little bit deeper than his bathtime, so he had to get used to the fact that he couldn’t just crawl and flop around like he’s used to. He inhaled a big gasp of water once, and that was a little scary, but he coughed it up, and went right back to playing again. Haha.

I also got to play some of my “new to me” Super Off Road game I scored for 99 cents on eBay. I remember renting the game back in the day, but I never owned it. I probably played it for almost an hour non stop. I made it as far as race 40 and was getting my butt kicked. That one sitting was worth the 99 cents right there. So my NES collection continues to grow.
So it was a great Sunday. And even with that one day of R&R I feel ready to face the week. Of course it helps that it’s going to be a short week with the 4th of July smack dab in the middle. That helps the motivation too.
06.24.12To Grandma’s House We Go
Well you know in my last post I’ve been talking about how it’s tiring to be off traveling so many weekends in a row. But at the same time how it’s completely worth it? This weekend is another great example of that.
Andrea, Luke and I came up to Sabetha this weekend. We carpooled with Jamie, Bryan and their family to come to Grandma Pat’s and Grandpa Wayne’s memorial.
It was a very nice service. Lots of people there. I saw some people that I only recognized by name as I’d hear Grandma or Grandpa talking on the phone. I always rememebr often both Pat & Wayne would pick up the phone at the same time when someone called, so a lot of times, when you called their house, you’d get to have a conversation with both of them at the same time. Haha.
There were a lot of nice touches. I really liked on their memorial stone, how Grandpa had a horse engraved on his side, and Grandma had a little rocking horse on her side. Grandpa always loved horses, and Grandma has SO many rocking horses that she had collected over the years. I thought it was very fitting.
The preacher asked if anyone has stories to share, and man I could think of a ton from when I was groing up, but I didn’t want to speak, because I knew I’d lose it and no one would be able to understand me. I remember how she worked at the rest home and would always save soup can labels that we could turn in for school. And she always had iced tea, and this sweet 10 sweetner. It was kinda like Sweet & Low, but it was a liquid that you would drizzle in to the drink. I used to make the sweetest tea ever at Grandma’s house. Grandpa also like to drink coffee down at the old “Midway” truck stop. I remember sitting in the booth out there while the guys chattered. Lots of great memories.
We’ve got to spend a lot of time with Grandma & Grandpa Althouse too. I hadn’t realized how long it’s been since I’d been back here. The old gas stove is gone that heated the house, and now they have central air! Some things like that have changed, but walking around, I still see so many different things that I used to play on and around, that haven’t changed all that much. It’s been good to see everyone. Bittersweet to be sure. We’re off to church here soon at the old place I used to go to vacation Bible school, then the long road home.
05.26.12PODCAST – Can’t save to save my life

I beat this guy… twice.
Well here we go. I recorded this yesterday and am just now getting it on the site. The inability to save seems to be a theme. Not only with what I talk about in the show, but my computer even crashed while trying to save the audio.

05.19.12Luke playing with his truck.
It’s so cool. He already knows that when his truck tips over he has to set it back on its wheels to get it to roll again. Andrea was office sitting in the embroidery shop in the basement of the radio station and Luke had plenty of space to roll around!

04.26.12Life is Good
I’ve gotta apologize to everyone who’s been either around me, or following me on Twitter the past few weeks. I’ve been under a lot of pressure and haven’t handled it as well as I’d like. Everyone at work seems to keep telling me otherwise, but I really feel like there’s been a few moments where I could have kept a little more composure. Nevertheless things are starting to quiet down and I’m able to get back to my “old” self.
I’m just way to laid back of a person. I don’t “care” about much. So being all business and cracking the whip just isn’t my style. I guess you can say I’m lazy if you want. Doesn’t hurt my feelings. I prefer to think that life is too short to worry about most things. That’s kind of how I approach each crossroad. “Will the decision I make here have any significance 5 years from now?” Most of the time the answer is “No” and if that’s the case, what’s the point stewing over this small stuff.
So now I’m kicking it. I have to work a little late today, but I decided that if that’s the case I’m going to go in a little late too. So I slept until 7:30am and I’ve just been relaxing with the family. It’s fun to see Luke when he wakes up. He’s always in such a great mood. Lots of smiles. And we haven’t been doing much, but we’re at least all hanging out together, something that hasn’t happened much.
I also love sleeping with the windows open. It’s awesome waking up to fresh air and the sounds of the birds chirping. Like they way an alarm clock should be. We have an east window in the bedroom so the sun this time of year starts shining through a little before 7AM. I woke up the first time at 6:30 and thought, I should get up and around. But then thought…. well heck, I don’t have anything to do so I laid back down until my phone rang at 7:30… from work. They just can’t live without me I guess.
So today is Thursday. And I’m super excited. Because tomorrow is Friday. Which means the Guild Wars 2 Beta begins tomorrow as soon as I get home. I’m going to be late getting home again tomorrow because of a baseball game… but once I am home… I am free all weekend. I have absolutely nothing planned. And unless something super important comes up… it’s going to stay that way.
So sorry I’ve been complaining a lot. I feel like I’m getting a little burnt out at work and just have to vent some of it. I’ve got a vacation scheduled though here in a few weeks. That makes a big difference because it gives me a finite date in the future to look forward to. Instead of never knowing when it will end. But I’ll try to keep the whining to a minimum. I’ve got it pretty darn good.
04.1.12Lucas Dancing

Lucas dancing to Madonna. 🙂
Lucas likes seafood.
Fun video. Our room isn’t normally this messy, but Lucas has a way of making it that way. Andrea was building a computer for a friend of ours and singing to Madonna. This is a pretty typical night at our place.
